Orcas Island Fire & Rescue
24/7 Emergency Protection
Orcas Island Fire & Rescue is an all-hazards department serving our island community around the clock. We operate as a combination department with both career staff and volunteers working together to protect lives and property.
Our staffing model keeps two trained responders on duty 24/7 at Station 21 in Eastsound: a Paramedic/Firefighter and a Firefighter/EMT. When emergencies occur, volunteers respond from home, work, or directly from stations throughout the island.

Island-Wide Coverage
Orcas Island's unique horseshoe shape and terrain require strategic positioning. We operate seven fire stations across the island to ensure rapid response times. It can take nearly an hour to travel from one end of the island to the other, so our distributed network of stations and volunteers ensures help is always nearby.
Station 21 in Eastsound serves as our headquarters and houses our Advanced Life Support ambulances, engines, rescue vehicles, and command units. Six additional stations throughout the island provide local coverage and house specialized equipment including wildland engines, structural engines, ambulances, and water tenders.
