Learn lifesaving skills through Orcas Island Fire & Rescue. Our certified instructors teach American Heart Association courses that could help you save a family member, friend, or neighbor.
What We Offer
Heartsaver® Total - Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED
First Aid
Scene safety and emergency response
Medical emergencies (breathing problems, shock, allergic reactions)
Injury care (bleeding, burns, broken bones)
Environmental emergencies (poisoning, temperature-related illness)
CPR and AED
Adult and child CPR techniques
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use
Choking relief methods
Infant CPR
The Heartsaver course runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm approximately, with a 30-minute break for lunch.
BLS Provider
Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare professionals trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality CPR, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. This course does not include a First Aid component.
BLS Provider courses are not regularly scheduled, to request a BLS Provider course complete the CPR Class Request Form.

Class Details
Where: Eastsound Fire Station, 45 Lavender Lane in the Public Meeting Room (unless otherwise arranged)
Certification: American Heart Association (valid for 2 years)
Group Classes: Regular public classes at the fire station, aiming for the first Saturday and second Monday of each month. For upcoming classes, scroll down.
Private Classes: Available for businesses, organizations, and groups
Requirements: Minimum 3 students for group classes
Why Get Certified?
Emergency response is slower on islands. Knowing CPR and first aid could save someone's life while waiting for professional help to arrive.
Skills everyone should have: These aren't just for first responders - they're for parents, grandparents, neighbors, and anyone who wants to be prepared.
Meets workplace requirements: Satisfies OSHA, WISHA, and L&I certification requirements.
