Firewise Wildlife Prevention

In the Pacific Northwest, wildland fires are a natural process. It’s important that your home is compatible with nature, to help save property, lives, and ultimately, your entire community during a wildfire. Taking proactive steps to reduce your home’s vulnerability gives it a far greater chance of withstanding a wildfire.
Orcas Island Fire & Rescue proudly supports Wildland Fire Risk Assessment and Community Wildfire Protection (CWPP) which can be foud by clicking the button below:

We encourage Orcas Island homeowners and residents to learn how to reduce the risk of losing their homes to a wildland fire:
  • Use the  FireWise Tips Checklist  to check your home’s vulnerability in the event of a wildland fire.
  • Follow the steps in the Evaluation Guide to create a Wildfire Survival Zone around your property.
  • Become a member of the  Firewise Communities/USA Recognition Program . All qualified participants receive a property sign to let firefighters and neighbors know your home is Firewise!
